NXL Construction Services, Inc. is seeking a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor in the Commonwealth of Virginia to serve as Survey Division Manager based either in our Northern Virginia or Richmond offices. This is an excellent opportunity to work with an established transportation services firm with multiple long term contracts to manage. This position reports directly to the Director of Surveying.

The Survey Division Manager performs the duties of a Project Manager in addition to the duties of managing an office. This position is responsible for overseeing all projects to ensure thorough and accurate work is completed on time and on budget. This position is also responsible for delegating or providing work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff, and to ensure survey staff under his or her charge meets and or exceeds target utilization goals.

The Survey Division Manager must also market the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients. This position will keep current on surveying trends and developments to recommend departmental changes. This position will also assist the Director of Surveying and the Marketing department with presentation and proposal preparation and yearly financial and goal planning.

The Survey Division Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, facilities monetary expenditures, facilities use maintenance and appearance of the Northern Virginia office. In conjunction with Human Resources, this position is responsible for staff training, retention, and development through on-the-job coaching, project performance reviews and personal development discussions and well as hiring and reductions in staff to meet workload needs from both technical and manpower perspectives. This position works in collaboration and cooperation with NXL’s other Survey Division Managers and Division Team Members to develop standards for the survey department’s services and strategies for effective use of NXL’s staff and resources.

The successful candidate for this position is a Professional Licensed Surveyor in the state of Virginia with at least twenty years of field and office experience. Additional licensure in the District of Columbia and Maryland is preferred. The successful candidates should be able to pass background security tests. Candidates must have experience with and a working knowledge of MicroStation and AutoCAD.

We are seeking full time Transportation Construction Inspectors and Trainees for work in the Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, Charlotte and Statesville areas of North Carolina

Company paid training is provided!

Position Requirements:

Candidates should have work experience in the transportation Construction industry including: paving/asphalt, traffic signals, flagger/traffic control, road or bridge construction and maintenance.

Candidates MUST have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and the ability to pass a fingerprint/background check.

Candidates will be subject to potentially harsh outside environmental conditions and hazards at highway construction sites, including heights, heavy equipment and highway traffic. Candidates must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces for long periods of time and have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Candidates should be willing and able to work day or night shifts.

Virginia Professional Engineer

NXL is looking for a Virginia licensed Professional Engineer with a background in transportation. A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from a recognized University is required. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills as well as a proven ability to work in both a team and independent environments. Experience in construction management and documentation preferred.

Construction Inspector

NXL Construction Services is seeking Regular and Senior Transportation Construction Inspectors for immediate and future openings throughout Virginia.

Construction Inspectors inspect phases of construction on complex highway construction projects under the supervision of a Senior Inspector. They also work independently to inspect routine highway construction projects. Project assignments typically involve traffic control, sensitive political or environmental concerns, and project coordination with property owners, utility companies, and local county and state agencies. The inspectors receive direction from Supervisors but are also required to routinely make independent decisions and take quick action.

Candidates will be subject to potentially harsh outside environmental conditions and hazards at highway construction sites, including heights, heavy equipment and highway traffic. Candidates must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces for long periods of time and have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.

Successful candidates will have 3+ years experience working on DOT projects. Experience with SiteManager is highly desired. Candidates must possess all or most of the following certifications:

  • VDOT Soil & Aggregate Compaction
  • VDOT Asphalt Field Level I & II
  • VDOT Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field
  • VDOT Pavement Marking
  • VDOT Slurry Surfacing
  • VDOT Surface Treatment
  • VDOT Flagger
  • VDOT Guardrail
  • Virginia Erosion & Sediment Control Inspection
  • Nuclear Gauge Safety
  • Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control
  • OSHA 10 Hour Safety
  • DEZ Stormwater Inspector
